Child/Teen Counseling

A lasting impact.

Leavitt Institute provides individual counseling to children and adolescents, but we highly recommend that individual counseling should take place in conjunction or within the context of family therapy. We believe greater strides can be made with the teenage child when parent(s) or other family members are willing to participate in the process. Our rationale for embracing a family focus is the premise that gains obtained through conventional treatment of youngsters tend to evaporate once they return to a family whose dynamics have not changed. The family dynamics typically need to be modified to maintain the corrective influence of counseling on the child.

Often, what the family expects is a focus on the identified child void of familial involvement. It is far more effective to enhance a family’s ability to support the cohesion, nurturing and support of all family members, which has a more dramatic impact on the child currently in distress. While many of our problems can stem directly from our family relationships, just as often the solution to our problems lies within our family relationships. Each family is the single most powerful resource available to all of its members as they try to cope with all kinds of concerns and issues at all stages of life.
